Default Reduced fidelity

Last night I was testing out an 8 channel mic pre along with my Fireface 800 on a small test session. I was recording 7 channels of mic'd drums. The drums recorded with a nice fullness and fidelity. It seemed so different compared to a song I was working on. So I went back to the song session to re-record the drums. The result was a much lower recorded signal for all the 7 tracks of drums. They sounded weak and thinner. All the volume settings and bit rate were the same between the two sessions. No effects on the drums in either session. Why do the re-recorded drums not sound full and loud as in my test session on playback?

Listening back at a lower volume could explain it.

I had to turn UP the listening level on the re-do recording. But even after doing that there was a definite difference in audio quality. Drums and esp cymbals were not as crisp and clear.

Changes in room temp/humidity can cause drums to go out of tune, making for dramatically weaker tone. Just grasping at straws in the dark, here, for fun. Not much info to go on so far.

There is a setting in preferences to unlink record and playback. Maybe that needs to be turned back to linked?

I don't suppose you could post us some audio samples of the good vs the bad/weak? Via box.net or something.
