Default Pro Tools 11.1.2 and OSX 10.9.1 problems?

Hi there,

I've been using Pro Tools for some years and never had any issues with it before. Now I've updated from Pro tools 9 to pro tools 11 and updated my OSX to the latest version. I downloaded the latest drivers for my Mbox Pro from the Avid website.

The annoying thing is that it crashes all the time. I'm working on an album and every 5 minutes pro tools just dies. And sometimes when I open a saved session my Instrument tracks are disabled and I have to enable every track... then everything crashes again.

Only plugins I use are the ones that are built into pro tools and Slate digital and Toontrack plugins.

Hope someone can help. Other than that I love Pro tools 11.

Pro Tools 11 sucks right now. We'll have to wait for them to fix all of the bugs. Until then, download REAPER and finish whatever you've got going on.

Yeah that sucks. You think something should work when you pay a lot of cash for it. But I'm sure they'll figure it out sooner or later. I like Pro tools so I think I'll continue a few minutes at a time between the crashes.

Do you get a dump of PT when it crashes? Could be a specific plug-in?

Nope, everything just close down. Only plugins I've installed are Slate digital and a few Toontrack drums. I have a couple of songs with the exact same settings and one of them crashes every time I open it but the other one only crashes once in a while.

Could you try; Applications > Utilities > Console
There should be a section called; User Diagnostic Reports
See if there are any recent Pro Tools dumps available.

Have you tried opening the crashing session with all the plug-ins inactive and activating them one by one to see if it's one of those plug-ins.

Yes I have a crash log here (.dmp) but how to read it? BTW, how do you open a session with all the plugins inactive?

From the console the dump should be human readable.. look for a specific thread that is crashing and scroll down to see where it is.

Open session with all plug-in inactive; Go into the Open Session dialogue and hold the "Shift" key down as you open the session….

Gotta take the dog out for a walk in the snow… I'll be back in about an hour to see how things are going...

First of all, thank you for trying to help me. I really appreciate it man. I started it inactivated and when I came to activating the toontrack drum plugin it crashed. So I had to delete that channel first and create a new one.

Now it seems to work. Can't figure out why because I use the exact same routing, settings, etc when I did an identical drum-track.

Hey great! I mean not great that one of your plug-ins was crashing, but great that it seems to be ok now. Is it Superior Drummer? There have been a few people experiencing intermittent crashes with Superior, can't really nail it down to what (preset, kit, etc..) or when though. Anyway… glad you're back on track … so to speak...
