Default Been getting this error popup a lot lately *pic*

As far as I can tell nothing is happening, but it's been popping up a lot in the last week or so.

Could it have something to do with my external hard drive? Its been losing connection here and there lately too. But never usually in sync with the error popup, this time it was but that could just be a coincidence. Finally decided to make a post about it before it becomes a real problem rather than just a popup.

we get those from time to time, I use one of the apps for deleting preferences, it is usually a volumes database. quit protools, run the app (Pro Tools Pref and Database Helper or PT Prefs are both good), delete only what you suspect which in this case would be databases and catalogues that contain volume descriptions. Empty trash, reboot and see if it's better

Assertion errors can also be audio I/O related. Do you have a solid connection to your interface? If it's USB and on Windows make sure the ports aren't set to power down.

From the screen shot, you are on a Mac, correct?

You feel it may be related to your external HDD?

Let me ask, are you on Yosemite? Have you done the optimizations for Mac OSX?

I am pretty new to the Mac OS but I will give you what I have learned thus far;

I have had a problem with my external drives spinning down to idle EVEN WITH THE ENERGY SAVINGS OPTIMIZED. This gives me the spinning beach ball when ProTools wants to write to the drive until it comes back up to speed. NO they are not green drives. They are the same OWC Mercury drives I was using with win7.

I don't know if it is a Yosemite thing or not, but I have been reading that sometimes the drives will not respect the never sleep option and will spin down to idle.

If this is what is happening to you, look for a utility called keep spinning at mac apps. I loaded it a few days ago and my issues went away.

Hope that helps.

I've read in several places that what you're experiencing is indeed a Yosemite thing.
