Default Some virtual instruments not playing back

Hi everyone,

I'm new to Pro Tools, but it seems to me that some virtual instrument plugins in PT10 just simple don't play back. A lot of the virtual instruments in XPand!2 just don't play, when I try to compose or assign to MIDI data.

I'm trying to make my MIDI data play back and when I assign them to instruments, the only one that works is Vacuum.

Is there something I'm not doing that I should be doing to make my virtual instruments play back? Or is some MIDI data just not compatible with some sounds?

Any help would be appreciated.

When you say "assign them to MIDI instruments", are you using MIDI tracks or Instrument tracks? Try creating a stereo Instrument track, insert XPand! or any other VI directly onto the track, select the track and open the MIDI Editor window. You should be able to play the instrument using the keyboard on the left without having to assign anything.

I believe you have to "arm" the track to record, to hear playback of the input data on the VI (unless you have pre-input MIDI data assigned to a VI).

Try setting that instrument track to record, and see if you then hear audio playback as you input.

No you shouldn't have to - you should only need to select the track to play through the VI on it with a MIDI controller.
