Bass Advice
I know everything is trial and error, but what seems like the logical move for a home project studio? To get a small bass combo and an amp like the D112 or go with a tube preamp like the Ampeg SVP-CL. I'm kind of leaning towards the preamp myself, but just curious what other people are up to.

Re: Bass Advice
Depending on the sound I'm after I'll usually use a combination of a DI, and a miked amp/cab. I like to use the DI mainly for the bottom end, and the amp for the mids/highs.
You can do some pretty serious EQing just by nudging tracks a few samples since the DI signal is faster than the mic. |

Re: Bass Advice
Great-sounding bass instrument is more important than anything else, bar the great bass player.

Re: Bass Advice
I think you should look at IK Multimedia's new Ampeg SVX modeller (http://www.ikmultimedia.com/). It may be digital, but it sounds fantastic from what I've heard of the preview. All you'll need is a D.I, if your interface inputs don't already support instrument-impedance levels.
