Default hot vocal mics for around 350

What do you people use for vocal mics? What kinda hot consender can i get for under 350. I am using one of them Marshall MXL2001's right now. it's really nice for acoustic guitar, but it's bad news on vocals. no life, and lots of S's and T's. I've heard the Rode NT1 is hot. I've heard the AT4033 is a good one. what do you people think?

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my AT4033.

It especially rocks for vocals, acoustic guitar, and ambient drum micing.

You will not be disappointed!

The Rode NT1 is a very awesome vocalmic. 20-20k freq. (can't beat that right? heh) 2 of them work really well for overhead drum micing too

I gotta agree with Travis. I am not a mike connisseur like say, Allen. But I swear, my little Rode NT1 sounds great... Two of em would be twice as sweet, and you're talkin' about $200/U.S. bucks(apiece)...

But like I say, Allen (Hallada) has well-rounded experience with both cheap and expensive mikes, so take me with a grain of salt...

if you're checking them all out, you have to check out the Studio Projects C1. I have two and love them. www.studioprojectsusa.com $200 @ Sweetwater. There's even a review from Mix Magazine on their website now, so it puts the other, over the top reviews in some perspective.
They're distributed by PMI Group which distributes two other products in the USA as near as I can tell: Trident and Joe Meek. Could be worse company.

Roy,
I would think for a few extra bucks, the Rode NT1000 is a much better mic than the NT1. I know I was disappointed to find that out myself as I already bought the NT1 when I bought my Digi001 and the guy selling it to me even recommended the NT1000. At that time they were too much money, but they have dropped in price to under 300.00. You can get the NTK for 385.00 at www.bpmmusic.com and the shockmount to match for an extra 35.00. It is worth it and works great. The NTK really is the **** for under 1000.00. I've heard great things about the Studio Projects C1 also, but in a blind study I chose the NTK and the Neumman U87. Unfortunately no BLUE mics in the bunch as I've heard that the Kiwi kicks butt on vocals too. There was an Audio Technica that I liked as well, but can't remember the number. I think it was the 4047. Some of these AT mics are great for male vocals too, just cost a little more for what you get. I also heard an AKG SolidTube on a high womans voice a couple of months ago that sounded good. I saw one at Mars for under 500.00 new. Not that familiar with AKG mics though. Seems the pros have their share of them in the mic rack.
I called the US Rode rep and he said that the NT1000 was going to replace the NT1, but I think the NT1 is still selling like hot cakes. Just pick them up and feel them, the NT1000 and NTK are built like tanks. So I guess what I'm saying is that for a few extra dollars you can get a really high end mic now. Just my stinking opinion though and I'm falling asleep.

I have my NT1000 for a week now, I had the chance to compare it to a Stagg and my AKG C1000's (but that's not a good comparison) and I think they rock!!! Go for the NT1000! Read the reviews (especially the one at www.prorec.com)!

Well Allen,
I'm shrinking as I read those stats and prices... Sheesh kabob... I'd better start stealing change from my wife's purse again... I had no idea the NT1000 has dropped so low.

Seriously Kip, I'd go for it...

Say, whats the difference between the NT1000 and the NTK ?? I used to think that 1000 = 1K therefore NT1000=NTK, but apparently not.

Is it coz its some tube mike or something?

I've got 2 NT2 only, and I have yet to use other mikes, coz I cannot afford. Is it cheaper to buy online from Australia?

Thanks and Regards,
[Charles]

if you can convince whoever you buy them from to send them as 'personal effects' or 'gift' or bodge the value on the invoice then you may get away without having to pay import duty. if not it could end up costing you as much in freight and customs as you paid for the item to begin with which kinda defeats the purpose. i have, unfortunately, first hand experience with that one.
i think my local pro audio retailer has them marked at AU$600 so they'd probably be a bit less with some haggling...
