Default 8.0.4 LE and network problems : not solved...

I have iMacs and Mac Pros with OS 10.6.3 and 10.6.4 and PT LE 8.0.3 and 8.0.4: the only way of making PT LE work on those computers is to have a network preset where there's no network interfaces active (we even called the preset "Pro Tools" so there's no mistaking from students and other users...).

I had hoped that 8.0.4 would solve the network problem, but no... Is the problem acknowledge and identified?

By the way, I also have some other Mac Pros with PT HD 8.0.4 and OS 10.6.4: it's working like a charm.

Apparently, we're the only one that *were* having this problem...

Since it was a problem that was solved by turning off the network (either in software or in hardware by unplugging the Ethernet), my colleagues and I investigated further and found a network setting that was affecting only PT (the update checker part of it anyway).

The answer: in the Network Systems Prefs, for an Ethernet connection, the "Search domains" field must be completed.

When we plug our various computers to the network, they all get their IP addresses and DNS servers from the DHCP servers, that's it, that's all. Every damn piece of software on the computers, whether it's a browser, a FTP client or the update checker now found in about every app on the market works without any problems But PT? No sir. The search domain must be specified, if not, the poor PT update checker (whatever it's setting) stops everything.

Didn't work for me, but glad you had better luck.

The upshot is that I learned how to disconnect my ethernet point via System Prefs instead of yanking out the cable every time I go to boot up PT.

That's a handy tip. I was starting to worry about wear and tear on the cable and the port.

Apparently it's a known issue and Avid is on the case, so I guess it's wait and see for me.
