Man these are great. The SOD and Mesa Rec sound amazing through these IR's of an actual Mesa Cab.

Thanks for the heads up.

A friendly bump and a quick question....

What plugin is best to use for cab ir loading on a mac? On the PC, I always used a wrapped version of a vst, but that vst is windows only, so I'm out in the cold at the moment.

for loading IR's for guitar you can't beat RedWirez MixIR2. You will have to wrap the VST if you want to use it in Pro Tools. It is PC and Mac compatible.

Supposedly RTAS support is on the way (just in time for Avid to trash RTAS and bring us another proprietary format, AAX )

http://www.redwirez.com/mixir2.jsp

its only $49 for MixIR2 or get it included with the BigBox IR files purchase for $125.

Money well spent either way.

I have been crying out for more cabs (+ more mic's) will this type of thing give me these things? And what will it cost me to get it up and running?

yes. just bypass the cab in the 11R and use the impulses.

It would be nice if you could load (multiple) impulses directly into the 11R, and still be able to layer them like you can using software. You can use cab-mic impulses, or cab-mic-pedal impulses, and also layer some great vintage EQ impulses into the whole guitar mix.

By using IR's you have a practically unlimited amount of cabs and mics (and mic positions) to chose from.

The Redwirez library is probably the best. But there are tons of free IR's as well that sound great.

Things you need:

A host (DAW) - (you have that.)

An IR host plugin. (the best host for guitar IMO is MixIR2, but there are free options as well, VST, meaning you need to wrap them)

IR's (buy them and/or use free ones)

thats basically all you need.

The Wrapper from FXpansion is like $99 (VST to RTAS)

MixIR2 is supposed to be getting RTAS support (meaning you wont need to wrap it), but who knows when. There are plenty of RTAS IR hosts out already though, but none as good, for guitar, as MixIR2 IMO.

Thankyou - that is exactly what I needed to know .

Now with RTAS going the way of the dodo I think it may be a good idea to purchase that wrapper. It think holding my breath waiting for MixIR2 to go RTAS might be a waste of time .

I just found a copy of Peavey Revalver on ebay for $100...got it's own cab loader in it, plus the rest of the modeled stuff for quick (read: not through the 11r) reamping. Good enough for me!

Would you elaborate as to why? This has me a little confused

If you record the track dry -> then load up the IR into ProTools then arm the track you wish to record to why can't you use it to reamp . What am I missing?

And if you can load up the IR's why would you really bother with reamping when you can use the sound for recording as is.

My mind is in meltdown once again .
