Pro Tools 11 Freezes When Opening Older Sessions

Hello:

I am experiencing a strange problem with opening older Pro Tools Sessions with Pro Tools 11. I can create, save, and reopen sessions with my new version of Pro Tools but when I try to open sessions I did not create, such as the lessons in the Pro Tools 101 course DVD, Pro Tools freezes and then I have to shut down my computer and reboot. I will gladly accept and try any advice anyone may have. Below is my system's info:

Dell Studio XPS 435T
Window 7 Home Premium
Intel Core i7 CPU 960 @ 3.20 GHz
64-bit Operating System

Pro Tools 11 Version: 11.3.2

Hold the SHIFT key while opening an older session. That will make all plugins inactive. If that allows the sessions to open and run, then you will need to do some detective work to figure out which plugin needs to be updated, or swapped out.

Thanks for the prompt response. I went ahead and tried opening a file from around 4 months ago holding the SHIFT key down as you recommended. However, Pro Tools 11 froze as before.

I'll give you little more detail as to the actual freeze:

I held the SHIFT key down.
Opened the .ptx file.
Upon the first appearance of the edit window, my computer freezes.
I'm not even able to access the Task Manager, I have to hold the power button down until the computer shuts down and then I have to boot up and start over again.

Hi Dave:

Good news! I got many of my older PT files to open by holding the SHIFT key down after all. However, some of them won't, for example, the template files. But, I'll just open them with my MAC and re-save them so that I can open them in Windows. Thanks again for all of you help!
