Default PT 6.1 A Paid Upgrade

Little birdie tells me PT 6.1 will again be a paid upgrade. Hard to make out some of the meaning - what with all those chirps and all - but a few things stuck with me: $195.- and $75.- (for whom and what exactly, I couldn't decipher); the majority of "new" features are post-production-oriented. And there ya have it, in a nutshell. Oh look, a worm!

given the amount of bugs in 6.0.1, i think it would be a HUGE mistake for digi to charge more than $5 for 6.1. people are pretty upset at this point. i have a friend who does professional mastering work and he said that 6.0.1 brings down the entire OS every 3 days. i've crashed it 3 times (the entire OS). i also get that stupid "end of logical file" error when bouncing down regions. if i go into OS9, PT5.3.1 doesn't give the error.

anyway, digi should avoid getting into a situation where the backlash is greater than their reputation. just my thoughts.

Thanks for your input.

Andre, you should stop listening to "little birds". You can get the correct info from the "horses mouth" very shortly.

Secondly, Lance, the problems that you and your friend are experiencing are not the norm for Pro Tools 6.0.1. I just spoke with a dubbing stage on Friday running a Mix and an HD system both on Pro Tools 6.0.1. They have been using 6.0.1 for three weeks now, roughly 12 hour days, and have had two crashes both of which were attributed to a bad hard drive.

I have also been running three demo HD systems for months now without the problems you describe. You may want to check Answerbase here on the Digi website and/or give Tech Support a call for some help on those crahes.

Some of us have no complaints about PT6.
I have been using 6.0 & 6.0.1 an average of 10-12 hrs a day almost everyday for a few months now...
I think I have crashed about 4 times at best.

I also hope 6.1 is not a paid upgrade and that we can resize the I/O setup & disc allocation windows,
that would be heaven .....

This is so gonna suck if i have to pay for 6.1. I am a student and just purchased 6.01 LE less than two weeks ago when I got a new mac. Another 75 dollars down the drain...

Is there any chance that users who purchased within 1 or 2 months of the release would have free update?

Digi, thanks for stepping in to squash the rumors.

I have been running 6.01 w/HD since it came out in a full time studio with no more than 2-3 crashes a week. But I did get a new HD and installed Jaguar on it before installing PT. Running OSX on a OS9-formatted HD caused me a lot of unexpected quits; installing Jaguar onto a fresh drive is one of the secrets to success I think.

I almost always have Mail, Safari, and iWork open in the background while working in PT 6. I also burn client CD's with Toast while bouncing to disk their alternate mixes, etc. It all just works!

If Classic is running I do get CPU too slow errors in PT though.

Digi,

Is there any chance of a dedicated MIDI Edit Window in a future PT6.x?

Other DAWS have this option for those who do alot of MIDI oriented editing and it is alot easier to work this way. For example like Digital Performer that has both the PT style Audio Edit Window and also a MIDI Edit Window.

Pretty please...?

When I was in OS9 I had about the same crash rate as now. But I wan't running mail and web in the background.
