USB devices with PTF
Has anyone tried a USB device with PTF? I am thinking of going this route on my laptop, maybe even the mbox, but wondered what the word was on PTF and USB gizmos like the Quattro, the tascam USB stuff, etc. Thanks!

Re: USB devices with PTF
Its not a happy story bruvva, not yet anyway.
I've tried with the Tas US428. Two main problems: 1 Altho the tas has 24 bit A/D and D/A, PTF relies on the OS-resident drivers (MME in windows and SoundManager in Mac) and they are only capable of 16 bit max - for more see the tascam forum at: http://209.216.16.19/ubb/Forum9/HTML/006419.html [If any one at Pro Tools or elsewhere knows of an alternative to MS MME that will do the 24 bit thing for PTF, I would love to know. I was really enjoying getting to know PTF til I found out about the MME problem ] 2 Using MME, PTF has very high latency during recording. So you have to mute the channels you are recording to, to enable direct monitoring in the US428. Muting PTF solves your latency problem, but it means you don't hear the sound true to the effects that you would apply to the sounds in real time while recording. Next Steps? Pro Tools - Is there an alternative to MME that we can use? MS - are you bringing out a 24 bit alternative to MME? |

What can you tell us of the Win XP? Is it also an MME 16-bit deal? Thanks, Doc |
