Default Addictive Drums 2 No sound on playback.

I'm only a couple days all and all maybe 12 hours into PT12 Full.
Am I missing a step here? I'm doing nothing different from my old daw.

I setup an AD2 track in a new project.
Select my kit, drag a beat clip to the track, set loop length.
It plays fine. Save and exit Pro Tools.

Reload ProTools and the project, Everything looks ok but the beat clip midi data in unresponsive.

Any ideas?

Is the clip greyed out? Check if the MIDI connection to AD2 is active.

Hello,
So how does one check if AD2 is connected to the midi data?
yes, the data is dark grey.

Thanks for the reply!

View (menu) > Mix window views > Instruments. Make sure that is checked. Then, on the instrument track at the very top, check that the MIDI output is routed to AD2.

Also, make sure that you haven't accidentally muted the MIDI clip(s).

So what I'm seeing is that AD2 needs to be assigned to a channel as if it were an external sound module. Is that about right?

Yes, that is correct. You should see something like Addictive Drums > Channel 1 for the MIDI routing.

I was having the same problem, and your answer fixed it for me, but I'm curious, is this something new with Pro Tools 2018? I don't ever remember having to do this in previous versions of it. The interesting thing is when I first create the inst. track and assign a VI to it, i.e. Superior Drummer 3, the track plays fine. It's only after I instantiate a new "recall preset" to that track. Then when closing and re-opening the song that track is grayed out and I find now that I have to apply your solution to "wake" the track up. Is this correct?
Thanks!
