Default DAE and Digital Performer?

I've read one can use Digital Performer with DAE. How does it work? Does it work by itself or do I need to open Pro Tools first? How about plug-ins? Would I be able to record audio to DP without input monitoring latency as in PTHD?

You specify DAE as the audio engine for DP. You may have to relaunch it after doing this. It works by itself, with no need for PT to open simultaneously. The TDM plug-ins then become available in DP. As for latency, I have no idea what the differences are.

as of dp 4.52 there is delay compensation in digital performer. i was a long time dp user who switched to pt for the power, but at the sacrifice of massive midi features and notation editing.

after using hdII for a year or so, i'm quite happy, but do miss the features i used to take for granted.

that said i still keep my dp upgraded, and this new version works quite well with the dae hardware, in fact there is a window set which mimics the protools windows for the most part.

one dealbreaker though which needs to be considered is the sacrifice of reWire with motu/dae. they suggest using mas and printing the rewire tracks, then switching back to dae. personally i find this too much hassle and have bailed on dp until they integrate dae/rewire. i live with reason tracks on most projects.
