Default Slow to start Playing when video in timeline

Here's a problem i've never had before.

I have a mixplus system with AV option.
We just upgraded to 5.1, and now, whenever i hit "play" with picture in the timeline, there is a 1 to 3 second delay before things actually start moving.

I don't have the problem if it's just audio files, only with audio AND picture.

The famous midi countoff isn't on, and up until the upgrade, everything worked just fine.

any thoughts?

G4-450, Mixplus, AV option, lots of memory, ATTO card,

Thanks.
Rick

Where is your movie window? I've found that if you don't move it to the monitor connected to the ABVB card, you can get all kinds of funky behaviour.

ModernMusic-

I have a similar AV Option rig, and I just was about to upgrade to 5.1.1 from 5.0.1, but the Digi guys told me (3 days ago) that even though the audio side of the system is ready to upgrade--the AV Option side for 5.1 has not been released yet. They said it might be at the end of this month, but you know what that usually means. Wait...

You might remember upgrading from 5.0 to 5.0.1, AV Option guys had to wait for the 'AV Option' disc to come before we could go to 5.0.1 Well, this is the same situation I think.

Crap.... i thought i was in the clear as far
as 5.1.1 and av option.

If i remember correctly, the Digi guys said
that after 5.1.1, all would be fine.

I guess i have to deal with the delay for the meantime?

Hey Digi Tech guys... is there a beta version of the AV option that you could get to me?
I've already started a couple of jobs in 5.1, so reverting to 5.0.1 isn't really an option.

Thanks.

(I have the movie window in the right spot...good question, tho.)

Modern Music
The settings folder in the Video engine are from the ProTools 5.0.1 but the ABVB.DLL
is version 5.1. Upgrading to the latest ProTools version 5.1.1 should not have produced a performance issues.
One thing we should try is under ProTools
preferences, Setups/Preferences/operations/
open ended record allocation set to "limit to" 15 minutes.

Dear DigiTechSupt-

Do the customer service guys talk to you? Monday I called wanting to upgrade my mix+ with av option from 5.0.1 to 5.1(or whatever the latest is...5.1.1?)

They put me on hold for eternity to "ask" if the av option upgrade disc was ready to ship with the regular software disc, and came back saying "no, you have to wait".

What's up? You are making it sound like av option users can be in 5.1.1. Is it really okay to upgrade and I'm the only dufus that doesn't know it?

Please respond, and please let the customer support/sales guys in on the updates.

I really want that upgrade NOW! Have I been waiting months for nada?

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

Hi Mark
Yes, you can and should upgrade to ProTools ver 5.1.1. AV/AVXL option have been updated
just the settings folder is the same. There are new features is PT 5.1.1 like being able to use multiple clips in the video track.
The Digidesign Tech Support and Web DUC Support are the same staff and have access to the same resources. It is possible however
that the Tech you spoke with did not understand the question or there was a breakdown in communication. If you talk to a tech and something does not sound right to you, please repeat the question so you are on the same page. As for Modern Music, we are not sure as to why he now gets a delay in play start with video in 5.1.1 that worked with no delay start in 5.0.1. There are a number of possibilities that we are looking into in regards to his system.
thanks

Here's what I do. Since I use a TV to monitor the picture, I set the track that has the picture to "Blocks" then I hide the little picture screen way at the bottom of my monitor so that I can only see the top of the bar. This speeds things up by not taxing your computer.
