Upgrade/Crossgrade to V9

Hello, folk,

I'm confused about the iLok, when it comes to the V9 upgrade. Can't we use the one we have now and update it? My first PT rig was with V7.3, and when I upgraded to V8 I just had to go on-line and update the iLok .... at least that's what I remember.

What's this about?

you can use your old one, don't buy the new one, it's not a big difference except that you can store much more licenses on it.

what exactly don't you understand with the hw number and your ilok account?
When you download or purchase your PT9, you'll have to enter the serial numer of your interface and your ilok name too. Then you get the license for PT9 at your ilok account, download it to the dongle and that's it...

They do make it sound like you need the new one but mine is working great with my old one.
Only buy the new one if you have none at all or you need to hold way more licenses.

Sorry, it was just the iLok part that I didn't get. I thought I had to buy a new one.

I had also bought the music production toolkit back then. Does V9 now make that redundant?

Yes. You can get a discounted price upgrading from MPTK to Complete Production Toolkit via the Avid Store.

Hi guys, I've had pro tools le with OO3 Rack factory since verision 7.2 and it did come with an iLok but it was to store the factory plugins licenses. but ever since I upgraded to all the way thru version 8.0.4 I have not used the iLok dongle cause digidesign were charging for the plugins upgrade.

My question here is will the PT 9 crossgrade version be compatible with my digidesign 003 and will I need to buy a new iLok dongle just to use PT 9? And do you suggest that I purchase the xpansion pak that they are selling with the purchase of PT 9 software?
