Default Never rains without pouring

I've just pulled out my G4 armed with Mix farm in slot 2, D24 in slot 3 and farm card in slot 4. All was working a couple of months ago but when running a Digitest on the cards tonight all are failing due to no TDM clock being detected.

I discovered this while testing a new 882 interface. When recording, PT sees nothing but very loud hiss on input, (louder on the even inputs than odd). And nothing plays back.

1) Does this mean that there's a good chance the cards are now dead?

2) Will this digitest failure result in these symptoms with the 882 interface?

Maybe Re-Seat the cards?

Thanks for getting back so quick. Don't know what preferences to look at trashing. Yeah, cards have been out and back in. Everything was working perfect last time this one trick box was out. The only thing I can think is wrong is it's not been used for 6 months

Gone from having a good workhorse to zero in a heart sinking half hour.

Zap your PRAM while you're at it.

It could be the cards, but it could be that the PCI bus in your G4 has failed, too. Try the Digi cards in a different computer, or try a different PCI card in your G4.

I have had this problem before and had to reseat the card to interface cable many times before I got it to work. Cleaning the cable ends with an air gun could help but It could also be a bad cable that sometimes works and sometimes not.
Good luck

How do I do that and what does it do?

reboot while pressing : alt+command(apple)+p+r

this will erase some parameters stored by the computer. It's useful to zap once in a while as it corrupt fairly easily.

You may also wanna clear your caches::

Go to these locations and delete the contents of the folders:

home/library/caches
machd/library/caches
machd/system/library/caches

to be safe delete these files as well in : machd/system/library

Extensions.kextcache
Extensions.mkext

the files and locations to delete are merely something that the mac uses to speed things up instead of reading the same each time. All the deleted files will be re written once you boot again....

here's the chronology:

1) Repair disk permissions with the disk utility
2) delete the files & locations mentioned above
3) use this app: http://web.mac.com/jcdeshaies/iWeb/D...Bienvenue.html
it's written by a cool guy and you can read about it at the top of this forum
4) reboot while holding described key combo till you hear the boot chime 5 times then let go

Out of interest, while you had this issue did you ever try and use the cards with an interface, what happened if you did?

Though I can't really find the listing now, I've read that apple recommends you zap the PRAM any time you change PCI/PCIe card(s). Even reseating a card would count. I guess it holds information about your system setup.
