That's one reason.

That's another, though I don't think we would have a problem if it was on the same rig. Our rigs have 8GB of RAM.

One of the reasons is so that we can treat it like an ISDN. In terms of functionality and scheduling, that's really what it is. For our workflow, we are best served this way.

Ah! That makes sense.

Great hope on this product. Hope that all issues get solved.

I´m rather surprised at the costs of internet access in some countries mentioned along this thread.

Here in Portugal, at my house, I pay 61 euros for a 125 mb download with 8 mb upload and that includes 24 hour telephone line with no limits of time for all terrestrial lines, plus cable TV, incl premium movie channels.

I thought that in places like NY or in England, things would be cheaper.

OK, so salaries here are much less, but even so....

Here in NYC I am now using Time Warner Cable for Business Class service (switched from Verizon when I moved last summer). My package is "2x15", which is 2mbps up and 15 down. Not guaranteed. The highest upload speed offered with any of their tier services is 5mbps. When coupled with a 35mpbs download, that is $229 per month (not including phone or television). 50mbps down is a little more money. Even at these top service levels, nothing is guaranteed. You are always sharing with a thousand other users. Maybe those advertised speeds can be had at some odd hours of the day, but never guaranteed.

Yesterday morning for about 4 hours, my download speeds were very close to the old days of modems and phone lines. Several minutes to connect to the no-frills Google search page. This is not normal but has happened before. It is common for short outages during each day. Bad service provider? Yes. The other big choice is just as bad in many ways, which is why I switched.

In reality $229 is affordable, and with phone it would be somewhere around $300/mo. But, if service is not guaranteed it just strikes me in a bad way.

Jeez..
Here in Sweden at work we have dual redundant 100mb fiber connections for under 1000 USD/month (upgrading to 500mb soon). At home I have 100mb fibre for 50 USD/month.

There's a company here called TierZero that's offering Ethernet Over Copper (EoC) with guaranteed 2up- 2down, for $199-$299/mo, depending on the term length. Speeds available go up to 12up-12 down, but that's a lot more spendy.

As a commercial facility, I pay through the nose to get crappy speeds when my residential neighbor 50 feet away has the blazing downloads (but of course shares with everyone else)

Rebekah at the VKLA demo was saying that 2 up/down was plenty.

Anyone have experience with EoC? Jonathan?
