3 Gb switch on WINDOWS 7 / 64bits please

need help I am going to upgrade my HP NW 9440 laptop to 4gb ram
and want make 3gb switch
somebody
can explain for me the steps, thanks,very much

My system is HP Nw 9440(laptop)
Mbox PRO
windows 7/64bits
4 gb ram

Right. To have PT use up to about 3.7Gb of ram in a 64bit system just be sure to install at least 6GB of RAM.

Correct.

Just keep in mind that only 4gb of RAM in a 64bit system is buying you very little extra. Add some RAM.

I have onother PC working PT which support 8 gb ram / 4gb at the moment) if I upgrade to 6 gb can i use the 3 gb switch on windows 7/ 64 bits. Thanks

The switch is not needed woth a 64bit OS.

Sorry is a little confuse for me, while i was told told (TOM):

Yes. First, I’ll try to be less confusing. You never need the /3GB switch in a 64bit OS. But, if you want to maximize the amount of RAM that can be accessed by PT you will need more than 4GB installed. Pro Tools can see about 3.5 to 3.7 GB of RAM if you have enough to also run the system. So, if you install 6GB you can have PT access all it can use and still have some left for the system and other tasks. Again… No /3GB switch.
