Default How do I cut up one long track and make each segment a song?

I recorded the soundtrack to a movie on a 75 minute stereo audio track last night and now I'd like to cut it up into segments or "songs," and burn them to CD so that they're in order.

I'm not even sure where to start. Any help?

Create regions, export the region definitions, in your CD burning software (hopefully) you can import the regions as opposed to the sound file.

Also be sure to name the track before you record the song. That way when you cut it into regions they will all share the name and be easier to identify.

Thanks for the detailed response...it's all greek to me, though, which just means I'll be spending my next few free hours trying to figure it out.

One last question: My PT session is made up of just one stereo audio track and one stereo master fader. I've got some plugs (Waves L1, EQ) as well as a hardware I/O (BBE Sonic Maximizer). Will the plugs on my master fader be transfered along with the audio track? If not, should I print the FX to another audio track?

Thanks again!

No, you'll have to bounce your session to disk if you want the sound files used for burning the audio to CD to have the plug-ins applied.

But if I bounce to disk, won't I lose the breaks I've put in the track? Won't it revert back to one looong track?

Not if you bounce each song separately... or bounce it as one long file, open that and cut that into regions for exporting for burning.

You can select each region before bouncing, just to bounce that region/song to disk.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">OK, this is a PT function I'm totally new to, so can you explain a bit more? What I did was cut the track into regions and name each region. If I then select a region with the hand tool (so it's highlighted) can I then just choose "export" from the File (or is it Edit?) menu? Where do I export the regions to? How do I import into my CD Burning software (I'm using SoundJam). How would I import a region into SoundJam?

Sorry for all the questions...but thanks for the replies!

No.. you'll select all the regions that you've created.. and in the Region Bin on thr right.. use its menu.. Export Region Definitions (Command+Shift+Y) - this will include the region names and information inside the parent sound file. If your CD burning software supports reading in Pro Tools regions, then you import the region definitions instead of the sound file. You normally click on the parent sound file, and a list of included regions is displayed which you can select to use in the burner software. Jam, Waveburner Pro and Masterlist all support this feature.

If your burner software doesn't support this feature, the only thing left to do is export your regions as sound files in the same menu (Command+Shift+K).

Wow! That's awsome, I never knew Jam interacted with region lists like that. That is going to save me a tone of time on some of my projects.
