I wonder if the upgrade from ProTools HD 9 (or previous) to ProTools HD 11 (999$) contains a ProTools HD 10 license to keep using the not-yet-compatible plugins...

Exacly! And is PT11HD only available if you have 10 HD as it would cost 599 for that upgrade. Just PT11 is 699 and is that the "non HD" version for 699?

From 9HD to 11HD is 999 but it doesn't say 11HD?! I am confused here! Can anyone with better understanding please explain this and will our 3rd party interface work with 11 HD as 10 HD does?

Thanx guys
Chris

PT HD software has never been sold by itself. It always comes with hardware, that is why you can upgrade from 10HD to 11HD, but you cannot buy an 11HD license alone from Avid.

@SteveGalante,

Yes, the HD11 license includes an HD10 license. This was stated in the description on the Guitargutiar page that was taken down.

@DrDaw,

You might want to think through what you're saying. You did not get free upgrades for 10 years from Steinberg. In fact their upgrade prices are not that far off from what Avid's have been. You've paid almost the same amount as if you would have been with Protools all that time.

And as for the 11 Rack, it was $899 for the longest time, so it still would have been a good buy even at that price, vs. just buying PT10 by itself.

So, to sum up pricing:

Upgrading from regular PT to regular PT is the same as it was last time.

Upgrading from Express or LE is a little more expensive than last time.

Upgrading from HD to HD is MUCH LESS expensive than last time.

Which is more than fair, because it has been ridiculous from HD9 to HD10.

I don't see any HD upgrade prices anywhere for HD7 or HD8 users. I wonder what's going on there.

EDIT: Wow. They still get shafted.
