Default Use DIGI002 with MIX system

Hi,
I don't know if this is a good idea, but here is my plan, please input your opinions.
I will buy & set up a Digi002 and record Vocal, live instruments at 96K (I heard people says its sound better) then after the recording, I will down sampling to 48 or 44K to work with Mix system (since CD final will ended up at 44K anyway)...and do an entire Mix.
Do you think I will loss some sound quality ? if so, what happen to 192K when down sampling to 44K ? if the sound originally recorded at 96K then down to 44K and sound will the same if recorded at 44K, then what's the point for using 96K (beside the AC3 or sourround format.
I want to get better sound quality, but working for CD only, do I need to upgrade to higher sample rate ?
Best regards
Sonny

You would benefit from the 96k record even while downsampling (as with recording 24bit and dither to 16bit you get improved resolution in lower resolutions).

However the other major reason of 96k-192k is CALCULATIONS.

Unlike analog console where it's all electrons in digital domain it's abslute numbers running into algorhitms which are mathemtical equations (any simple plugin is an alghortim).

As with simple hand calculator, the higher number of floating points in the calc gives you the more accurate result.

Same goes here.

If you run a plug in 96khz / 48bit (or 32bit floating) you'll get much better sounding as the result of the audio would be with less lost.

Such trick is being done by some plugins on TDM (like the Sony Oxford and they take 2 chips instead of one so they "sum" 2x48khz to calculate in 96khz - 48khz audio).

So actually editing on the 002 suppose to get better results than a mix with 48khz .

Hi,
thanks for the response.
So, you do think: record at 96 then downsampling to 48K then Mix in Mix+ system will sound better than do a whole thing in Mix system ?
Sound too complicate but I do need to buy another system for another room so I thought that buying a 002 is a good idea because that room will not do the mixing, only record.
cheers
Sonny

Still you must check some features...
The 002 runs Pro Tools LE which has some less functionaility.
for example if your studio is post for film/tv and you need sync forget the 002.

The 002 should sound better than a 888|24 but I'm not sure how much. It supposed to be designed from some concepts of the PRE now provided by digi but I don't know...

Also the ADAT on the 002 is capable of 48khz top no 96khz.

If it's for the second room I'd try saving up and buying an HD1. it's a bit less powered than a fully blown system but it'll sound better and still give you full TDM compatibility and even nice mix enviorment .
