I want to install OS 9.0.4 how?

In an attempt to stabilize my G3400 system I want to re-install to 9.04 (supported version) - The software that came with my G3 was 8.6 - does anybody know where I get the upgrade to 9.04 (The apple site provides 9.2.1 only)

Apple's policy has been "you pay for each whole-numbered OS release"...Or something like that. So basically you'll just have to order the OS 9 installation disc from somewhere.

My opinion is that since Apple is spiralling in such a fast speed towards OS-X, they might as well provide OS 9 for
free! It's going to be obsolite, anyway, soon...Right?

When you install OSs, always do a clean install, not on top of existing systems. This includes updates as well. The Apple installers are not smart enough to know what to do if something is out of place.

I have the 9.1 install disc I purchased this but digi sasys they have not tested this version only 9.0.4 hence my predicament [img]images/icons/mad.gif[/img]

I have been using OS 9.1 for some time and have no problems.
I am also using the adaptec scsii card again no problems
I'm using the DC 30 video card(no +) again no problems
I know people using OS9.2 with no problems
My wife doesn't approve of me smoking either, I just don't do it in the house
my point is the just because digi doesn't approve something dosen't mean it won't work
or that it will screw things up

I just checked at the digidesign compatability section and 8.6, 9.0.4 & 9.1 is approved for most Macs and 9.2x is approved for quicksilver G4s

Unless you can find a Mac OS 9.0.4 CD, you will need to get your hands on a mac OS 9.0 CD and run the 9.0.4 updater, available on Apple's website.

NOTE:
Some Mac OS 9.x CD ROMs are only compatible with G4's so not all will work with your computer...therefore, it may be easier for you to excersize the latter option.

I have a 9.02 disk and an updater to 9.04. I am mailing someone a copy this week so if you wish to email me an address I will pop one in the mail for you to.

I have experienced problems running 9.2 with Firewire connections , and have experienced some problems with 9.04 and some of my plugins.

After you install 9.02 with a clean install and update to 9.04 you will need to look for a folder called Previous System Folder. You will have to copy your DAE folder accross into the new folder and certain select items from your Extensions and your Preferences folder.

ProTools will ask you for the access codes on booting up. Be sure to De-authorize any plugin keys just incase.

slightly off topic... but I've got a G4 500Mhz, and have OS 9.2.1. Everything's groovy.

AND after one of the external connector on my ATTO card went out, I'm back to the older Adptec card w/o problems(not planning on replacing the ATTO, too much $$ and it should not have broken anyway).
