Re: kick mics
The 602 is quite nice, but I don't kine the hyped low end much, it doesn't sound natural. I prefer the Shure Beta 52, especially in combination with a 91. While the 52 has some pretty hyped lows as well, I find them much more musical sounding.

the beta 52 on the other hand is a winner IMO ... does the job everytime! 602 is pretty good too ... but i still prefer the 52 YMMV oz |

Re: kick mics
I heard some good things about the audix D4......if somebody that has used one could chime in....that'd be great!

Re: kick mics
I had the d112 (too clicky) the beta 52 (too mid range honk) and the audix D-6.
I chose the D-6 hands down! |

Re: kick mics
I use a D-112 and an Audix D-6 on my kick. I think the D-6 has more low end punch. The D-112 is more middy. I also put a sm-57 on the batter side of the drum. It gives it some of the hammer sound. You can mix the three tracks as desired.

Re: kick mics
D6 is definitely easier to setup. Just pretty much put in front and forget it.
The D112 is a bit tricky but I have gotten great results from it if you can mess with it for a bit. EQ it some when you set it up and have another member of the band move it slowly to lock it in. Great mics both of them. I am actually picking up a D6 this week just to have it in the arsenal - Doc

Re: kick mics
my usual kick drum setup is miking with a beta 52, but also triggering the kick drum to an Alesis DM Pro Midi Drum Module, with a custom kick sound for that particular project (depending on the style of music), then i blend the two signals together once theyre in pro tools. This allows me to get really low bass rumble (i usually increase the EQ gain at 40 Hz) as well as a nice bright click (very important for a drummer utilizing double bass). Hope this helps. Anyone else use a similar setup?
