$99 Upgrade Offer

I'm not sure if anyone here will know, but thought I'd ask. I have a brand new MBox Mini (the new one) that I received after October 4th, or whatever the date was that should qualify it for the $99 upgrade price to PT9.

But I haven't even opened the box, I'm curious, do they go by the date that it's registered? Is that how they can tell I got it after a certain date? I didn't 'purchase' it, it was given to me, but it's not yet been opened, so I'm hoping I can use it for the special upgrade price.

But curious the criteria for determining that since I don't have a receipt for it.

Sadly, and much to many folks surprise, Mboxes never were eligible for $99 upgrades.
The only thing that WAS eligible for a $99 upgrade was PT 8 software, bought and registered between 10/4 and 11/4.

Oh, bummer. But if I bought an MBox, then didn't I 'also' buy PT8 software?

Logic would dictate that this would be the case...but, alas, logic doesn't seem to factor in to these situations too often.

It's really disappointing, because the release of PT9 was so rushed, many people at Avid were giving out really contradictory information. At one point, I was told at AES by Digi Reps, that:

1) MBox purchases after Oct. 4th WOULD quality for the $99 upgrade price

and

2) That PT9 HD upgrade would include 'everything' that The PT9 and Complete Production Toolkit does. Which is simply not true, since neither SurrCode or X-Form come with PT9 HD upgrade. So Digi's discussion of being able to move from PT9HD to a laptop for instance, doesn't hold true, since you'd have no way to monitor multi-channel surround without that plugin.

I think Avid should be giving every PT9 HD user a copy of SurrCode at least, since they're advertising the ability of PT9 HD to work on laptops and all that.
