192 + 96 + sync & Procontrol signal routing
Hello world
I hope that all is well with you guys. Not to sound like a HD newbie , I wanted to get some input on how to correctly map i/o for 192 so I can route monitoring I/O from 96 to 192 & from 192 to pro control. Please note, I am currently running 96i to 96 I/O & to Proc Control via. Db25 to 1/4 TRS. I now have a new digidesign db25 to db25, new BNC clock cables & my 192 will arrive tomorrow. I’m going to drop my 96i and replace it with the 192. Make my 192 primary (master clock), 96i/o expansion with with sync. Lastly, in Pro Tools I/O setup, what are the correct I/O map I need to use as my current I/o is for my 96’s & this is my first time setting up I/o configs for a 192 that has all 4 bays full, both digital & analog I/O. Thanks in advance guys. Rick Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Re: 192 + 96 + sync & Procontrol signal routing
Plan on an afternoon to get it all working(and save screen captures for future reference). The reason for this is, no matter how many cards are loaded in the 192, inside of Pro Tools, its 16 ins and 16 outs. The trick is to configure it correctly, which can take some trial and error with the digital IO(analog IO is pretty simple and intuitive). Have a signal source(I used a mic/preamp) and remember that the IO setup window must be closed for settings to take effect.
With only a single interface, sync is a non-issue. IIRC, the PC has a DB25 input? That's analog and gets fed from an analog output DB25 on the 192.(though my memory might be wrong)...

Re: 192 + 96 + sync & Procontrol signal routing
Thanks for the insight. So far, I spent the evening trying to get the 192 to be recognized by PTHD. Turns out the guy who sold it to me must have had tons of cards and 192s that he slapped the interface together. Chatting with my friend we determined that he (the seller) had the cards installed backwards... d/a, d/a & a/d a/d (smh) so I reinstalled the cards a/d, a/d & d/a, d/a THEN it connected. Not sure if a d/a card was bad because it had crust around the comps. I unplugged it to be on the safe side.
After starting pro Tools, the I/O seems backwards as my main out is on 7/8. Can’t get 3/4 & 5/6 meters to move on the pro control. Oh well, I’ll get back at it tomorrow. I been at it since 12pm fwiw Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Re: 192 + 96 + sync & Procontrol signal routing
IIRC, I did think the cards were not right in the photo. Hope you get it sorted.
BTW, if you plan on using 8 analog IO and 8 Digital IO, you only need a single Digital IO card installed. And further, I have read that the 192 actually MUST have 1 digital card installed to work at all

Yes those cards in the pic were installed backwards. I installed analog cards in bays 1&2. And installed digital cards in bays 3&4. I only plugged in digital card in bay 3 & left card in bay 4 unplugged. Once I’ve sorted out my output maps, I will test the 4th card. If it works, I will more than likely sell it. Then again, I might keep it Incase the other digital card fail one day. Not sure. Things are looking upward but this output mapping is nerve recking. Not sure if the dSub db25-db25 is the correct cable or should I grab a db25 xlr male & a db25 xlr female to see if it would route the outputs so the meters on my PC start working. Another thing, I am getting tons of latency when I map my rack gear as sends. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Re: 192 + 96 + sync & Procontrol signal routing
I looked into my gadget bag & found these female to female 1/4” adapters. I’m going use these to route my mic pre amp feed & rack gear outs through my a/d inputs (snake) to see if I can eliminate the latency since my current configs are mapped through the 96i/o inputs and fed to 192 7/8 output internally. Listening to this session that I have open, I can hear a huge difference. The sound is crisper, thicker & it kicks harder than it was when I was using only the 96’s safe to say that I’m making great progress

Re: 192 + 96 + sync & Procontrol signal routing
Make damn sure those 1/4" barrels are balanced(TRS)!!!!! If they are unbalanced and ground the cold side(the - of +&-), they will likely damage the 192

Re: 192 + 96 + sync & Procontrol signal routing
Actually they’re balanced but I put them back in my bag and plugged my db25 to 1/4” directly to the outputs of my rack gear & preamp and patched the db25 to a/d input slots. The latency is gone and my signals are relaying. Just finished my I/o map & created my standard recording session template. Thinking of how great it sounds, I can live without the monitoring peak meters (1-6) on my PC. On the lighter side, I really appreciate your insight and expertise in helping me patch this rig out. I’ve tried everything but I now have something that I can work with until I can afford a complete HD & Control surface upgrade thanks Albee

Re: 192 + 96 + sync & Procontrol signal routing
I have similar issue, got my system to recognise my 182,182D & 96, I can route output to 1,2 or 7,8 etc in hardware settings and i get meters working accordingly on the PC and 192(main primary) but get no audio output, this despite having another sound source in input 2 of the pc playing ok. So in short get signal in from 192, meters work verifying signal input but no signal output and i done know why, can anyone shed some light, tried several combinations of i\o setting without success...

I ended up spending an entire day going through every available route until I found the correct ones. My case was different as I was using a db25 to db25 snake cable. Pin outs are much harder to find than the single pin connectors. Sorry for late response. I’m just now seeing this Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
