Shuttle SP35P2 barebone, XP and ProTools LE 7.4 ?
I wonder if anybody has a shuttle SP35P2 barebone with intel quad processor running windows xp and ProTools LE 7.4 sucessfully ?
As far as I have read this is the only compatibel shuttle system. Im currently on imac and osx 10.4.9, but im thinking of switching back to windows because of lack of upgradabillity and lack of quad for imac ++ some other issues. |

Lemme grab a cup coffee and I will look at them. EDIT: What I got from looking at the manual, BIOS guide, Spec sheet etc was this. The system is based on a P35 board without built in graphics. Thats all good. Whats not mentioned is what type of Firewire controller is on the board. With only one expansion slot available you probably want to use the on board FW if at all possible. If you dont mind giving up the PCI slot and running a SIG FW card you should be fine with the exception noted below. In order to use the Core 2 Chips or (any chip that can scale its frequency to meet the work load) with Pro Tools you must be able to disable Processor Stepping in BIOS. This is called Enhanced Intel Speedstep Technology (EIST) or simply Speed step in BIOS. Or Cool and Quiet for the AMD Processors. I read all 31 pages of the BIOS guide and did not see a BIOS option for disabling SpeedStep. I saw options for setting the type of processor management (PPM vs SMM), I saw options for DOC which is presumably Dynamic Over Clocking. But no option to disable Speedstep. This doesn't mean that the option is not there. They may have it named it something different just to be clever or buried the option some place bizarre. The BIOS manual could be poorly written also. If you can call or write Shuttles support and clarify that its got a compatible FW chip and that Speedstep can be disabled then I would say go for it. Other than that it looks good. IHTH
