2 years and something I still can't work out.. unlink timeline and edit selection BUT

Hi, whenever i unlink timeline and edit selection, in the main arrange page, when i click anywhere else *outside the timeline selection*, for the playhead to move to or start playback from, i lose my selection in the ruler.

Yet i keep seeing videos where people move their playhead around and are NOT losing their timeline selection! I have tried everything I can think of and no matter where i click in the ruler or below it, i lose my timeline selection range every time.

Is it possible to do or perhaps it's supposed to do it but it's broken? I am telling you I have seen it on PT expert videos multiple times!

Just to clarify, i can have say bars 1 to 5 in the ruler timeline selected.. and i can then go around the project and select other clips that do not fall into that timeframe, or midi notes, and the timeline selection does not change. It's only when i try to playback from a point outside that range that it simple disappears.

Since nothing else drives me more borkas in PT than this, i will be eternally grateful to sort this out once and for all if it can be sorted out.

I believe it’s called Dynamic Transport

It’s in a drop down menu.

Right click on the play button in the transport controls and select dynamic transport.

ok yeah but dynamic transport definitely not activated in the video.

I should have said that first post.

I thought maybe there was a shortcut or something that I am missing due to lack of numeric pad.. like maybe starting playback from where mouse is but without actually clicking the mouse which is what removes the timeline selection?

There's definitely no thick timeline in the video.. I will have to find it.. Dynamic makes it thick which is why i immediately noticed it wasn;t.

Yes, if you turn off "Link Timeline and Edit Selection" (button directly under the grabber tool), you can leave your selection in place and move your playhead by clicking in the timecode area for moving the playhead.

Also with it off, you can use the transport controls (forward/backward) and move the playhead without losing selection.

ok when i click in the timecode area it removed the timeline selection.. hence the topic.. this is exactly what he does in the video and it works perfectly, which is why I am trying to find out what setting i must have to change (or something).

just thought i'd add, even if i click in the transport to move the playhead cursor, any time selection is instantly deleted no matter what settings the program is using.

Can anyone else confirm at least that PT 2018 or even PT 12 can not do this without dynamic transport activated? I think it was PT11 in the video.
