Default My DI guitar input level is hotter when recording?!

Here is my set up chain
  1. Guitar<API 3124<Rosetta800<Pro tools<Vintage Amp Room Plugin

I usually get a level of -10db or so. When I hit record the volume jumps up about 3 to 4 DB. I usually throw the trim plug after the amp simulator to bring it back down to where I want it to be. Not that this is a major issue, but what is causing this? Any insight would be great. Thanks

Justin

Just a guess. Could you have post fader metering happening and have the fader turned down? If this is the case, when you are recording, you are seeing the actual level being recorded. When you play back, you are seeing the actual level being heard. Research "Pre-Fader Metering."

You can find that option under the menu bar Options - Pre-Fader Metering.

Just like drummers sometimes you put the cans on and hit record things get louder. One of the best talents to tracking drums is to get the drummer to actually play at record volume for sound check and drums s,u .
I like to just mic it up at say were ready than let him do a few passes then say now we have do everything , Just tricking you to get a actual level to work with . Drummers acoustic players that are not super talented always play louder . and singers talk loud to with out knowing it .
This could be your issue but more than likely its the answer above this.
