Default iLok Backup

Hello.
I'm wondering about safeness of my iLok licencees. Until now i think of these option: One iLok in use, no backup. If the iLok will breake i have to contact each company i have a licence from, asking for a replacement licence and re-download these one by one to a new iLok.

I'd like to hear any experiences with broken/lost/stolen iLoks and how to get up to work again.

Ilok offers zdt. Also waves has a program where they give you temporary licenses and renew them just before they expire. But yes theft/lose of an ilok can be an issue.

If its more than a hobby, I would absolutely go for the ZDT covereage Its a small business expense and tax writeoff that could save you sanity(at the very least). I just moved all my iLok stuff to a new iLok 2 as it holds a lot more(so it all fits on a single iLok now).

ZDT is no backup, right? It speeds up the process but i need to have an second iLok to use the 14-day temporary licenses. After the download process i can immediately start working. Ok fine. But if the old iLok is missing and so i can't send it to iLok, all my licences will expire after that 14days! I have to ask every company i have a licence from for a replacement licence and re-download these one by one to a new iLok if they let me to.

So thats where you can post your experiences with that kind of worst cases.

Like any other expensive piece of gear in my studio, my iLok is insured for replacement value against theft/loss under my studio insurance program.
ZDT is great when an iLok goes bad, but does little to nothing (aside from 14 day licenses) if an iLok is stolen or lost.

How much does studio insurance cost (as described above by EJ)? A ballpark # for a high-end "project" studio? Thanks.

My guess is the prices are all over the board, so what EJ is paying is not going to be what you will pay. It's going to depend on a lot of things, most likely your location and the value of your gear will be the two biggest factors. I'd make up a list of what you want insured and talk to a few insurance agents to get some quotes.

Yep, that's the way to go.
I pay around $100.00 per month for around $100k of equipment coverage
