ok give it to me, re: buying a used Academic ver
I was a legitimate buyer and user of 1-ver 6 something, 2-7.4 versions and 1-ver-8 owner. Got cancer, lost my studio but kept a lot of my gear. 5 years later I'm much better and want to record with some of the equipment I still have left including a Tascam DM-4800 which I can firewire up to 32 channels into Pro Tools. After checking into upgrading prices decide to buy a "used copy of PT-9" with the Ilok, then find out (after installing it) that it's an Academic version. It works but apparently I can not transfer the Ilok or Digi license to my name correct? Can't Digi, Ilok or the original owner just shut off my Ilok leaving me without a DAW?

no, part of the Academic price deal is that is is a Non Transferable License
the owner should not have sold it to you

Damn, and he was such a nice guy, calling me "sir" and everything! What's the worst thing that can happen now?
You know the unsuspecting buyer should not be punished, the seller should. It wouldn't be that difficult to track them down either with their ilok or digi account. |

I don't think he would mind but how can I do that without knowing his ID and password?

Re: ok give it to me, re: buying a used Academic ver
Here's the other thing...if he had TLC on that iLok, he can report it stolen and then shut it down remotely when you try to sync it.
You are going to have to communicate with him and get the iLok account info, or return the iLok that he sold you, which he wasn't supposed to and get a refund. I would ask for a refund since he did not fully disclose the details of the product that he sold you. Also, the academic version can not be upgraded, so you will forever be stuck on whatever version of Protools is on that iLok.
