Default Extremely Distorted Sound When Recording Through Mbox 2

I'm only using a direct line from my acoustic to the mbox 2 and the xlr cable from my mic, and when I record the sound is extremely distorted and.. buzzy? I'm not sure how to describe it. It was recording just fine yesterday, and I plug everything in today and it starts making this sound. Is my mbox defective? Does anyone have the same problem here? I'm using Pro Tools 8.0.4.. I tried switching around the cables..

Yeah I've got the same problem. I have my guitar plugged directly into the mbox2 and when I go to record the sound becomes distorted with buzzes and clicks.

And how hot are your record levels when this is happening?

For me I've tried a combination of things. Raising/lowering the input/mix level on mbox, raising/lowering level on the guitar. I also tried to record with a dynamic microphone and I got the same results. I don't know if any of these factors matter but I'm listening to the recording and playback through the headphone jack on the mbox with some standard earbuds. I'm also saving everything to my internal hard drive until I pick up an external one.

I'm still a beginner at this, so not sure what "hot" means, but the levels aren't even close to peaking. I tried listening through bose headphones, standard ipod earbuds, and my speakers but they all sound extremely distorted. And I'm pretty sure it's not an issue with my microphone, because the direct line in put with my guitar is having the same issue. Do you think it's a problem with my mbox 2?

I think it's a problem with record levels. Turn down the inputs on the mbox til they don't distort.
Are you really getting away with 64 bit Vista and just one hard drive???

I'm pretty sure that's not the problem. It was working just fine a few days before this started happening at exactly the same levels, and I already tried changing the input levels.

Haha.. I guess? It's been working fine... I'm a complete noob at this, though since I've just started learning how to use pro tools, etc. How much of a difference will another hard drive make, and how would I properly utilize it?

Sorry I'm bumping this post, but I'm still having issues with this and really need a fix. No idea what to do...
