Default How is um regular PT 10 ?

I am one of those home guys who has PT 9 and Yamaha N12 etc. i am jsut wondering how PT 10, not even sure what to call it? is?

i have no AVID hardware just the software

it works great with the n12

i have the artist series controllers as well which with the updates to them is making me want to upgrade to 10

i have an old MACPRO octo 2.8, 16 gigs ran running OSX 10.6.8 i thinnk, the latest snow leopard release

i like some of the new features in it as well. for me i am confused with all the versions and negativity so i have held off

anyway just wondering what the future is for those of us who bought PT for 3rd party setups

thanks

Your 3rd party setup is supported. As long as you have any necessary drivers installed for your hardware, it is supported.

The negativity has been around the pricing structure. Some of these features are worth every penny, especially if you work in post-production.

Regular PT 10 does not have the Disk Cache features that HD has.

i guess my question is, will PT continue down the open road? i love my N12 and it works great with PT

is it true i would need to buy CPTK to get the ram cache?

If you want to remain with 3rd party hardware and also use the new RAM Cache feature, then yes.

Isn't the CPTK like $2k or there abouts?

Seems like it would be worth it if you had a ton of tracks, Right?

Well it does give you more tracks than any TDM system is capable of. If you have a decently powerful computer, PT10 with CPTK is not a bad way to go. Especially since you can find CPTK licenses for much less than retail on eBay.

It is really frustrating that the disk cache is not on both versions of pro tools 10. I would think that the guys/gals with the home or project studios would make more use of it than the individuals that have the DSP cards. In my opinion it should be in both versions.

For what its worth, I have pro tools 10 on an IMAC and running an apogee ensemble and it works pretty well. I had some issues with opening up old pro tool 9 files up, but other than that it has been pretty stable.
