Netflix certification IT considerations

Hi all,

thinking of applying for a Netflix audio post studio certfication as part of np3 programme, but I heard about some IT considerations and restrictions that are making me think a bit.

So, no DAW´s allowed to connect to the internet, firewalls in place, restrictions on the use of USB ports, encripted disks to file download prior to upload to the server etc.

Those of you who work on Netflix certified studios, would like to share your experiences on these issues and the limitations that eventually affect your daily work? Thanks in advance!

Netflix isnt as difficult as Apple. FYI these are best practices anyway. If you are going to try to convince companies to rely on your shop and entrust millions of dollars of work to your company. Maybe these minimal safe guards are a good idea.

It's not hard and really most of those are in place in decent LA post houses anyway. Your media network should already be separate from the internet - you're dealing with 10's or 100's of millions of dollars of someone else's property. If you're a small company who doesn't do those things you may have difficulty with business from -
- Disney
- Sony
- Apple
- Netflix
- Amazon
- most everyone else of any size who's been around since the Sony hack.

They're not all the same, some will care more than others, it's really about having a plan, implementing it, and most importantly be able to demonstrate in an IT-specific way what you've done about it. You may need an IT person for the language translation but around here media-centric IT folks are common, pretty good chance if I throw a cat or chicken I'll hit one.

I was at a meeting as a technical translator in a small post house here in LA where a Netflix rep was meeting with the owner along with two Atmos consultants. The room was set up for Atmos but not Dolby-certified, the consultants were there to sell the owner on Dolby-certification, and the Netflix rep was there to make sure he liked the studio. The Neflix rep likes the studio, likes the owner, told him the Dolby cert doesn't matter, he'll use the studio. Handshake, done.
