Default Hardware not recognised ....

hi folks :

ProTools suddenly won't find my hardware when I attempt to start it up.

ProTools 8.0.4cs2
OSX 10.6.7

This is with both an MBox2 and an MBox mini ....

Have tried different USB cables.
Have trashed all appropriate prefs
Have restarted computer ...

Upgrading to 8.0.5 is not an option tonight, download is too big, need to do it elsewhere (and need to use it tonight)

Have I got a compatibility problem, or can anyone suggest anything else to try ?

Thanks for any responses!

Simon

Sorry, I should have noted as well :

The audio through the MBox(es) in the few days before they stopped being recognised was also a bit "broken up", slightly glitchy ...

Hi Simon,
Sorry if this sounds too obvious but have you tried a different usb port?
If 2 mboxes and different usb cables plus all the other things you've tried don't work this is the only other likely variable I can think of.
It's worth checking if the mbox(es) is/are seen in system profiler under the hardware/usb heading.
I've had dodgy usb ports before.
Good luck.

Hi lae777 -

Thanks a lot for your suggestions, there's never a "too obvious" when I'm stuck :

- Tried the other USB port. Still no joy.

- Checked System Profiler - hardware - USB : it can see the MBox.

So no joy yet ....

Hi Simon, I'm glad your usb ports are good!
I know you have trashed appropriate prefs but this problem does seem to be a protools issue.
I think the hardware variables are covered so, assuming you have made no obvious big changes to your configuration recently then, some thing seems awry with protools.
Again not wishing to be too obvious but have you tried a deeper pref etc. trashing with ProTools Prefs & Database Helper at http://www.jcdeshaies.com/ (easier then doing it manually)?

Thanks again for your help.

Hadn't tried that app for a while as I thought it might be out of date ...
But yeah, just tried it again and still no joy ...
