Default Focusrite Saffire pro 24

Forgive me if this has been asked before but I have a 2012 MBPR and am thinking about picking up a Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 interface as soon as I get rid of my Pro Tools 8 LE rig. Would I just need to download the latest drivers from focusrite or would I need the ones that come in the box?

Download the latest drivers from the Focusrite website so you know you are using the latest and greatest.

Cool. And as far as I know how is it with OS X Mavericks, the focusrite website says it is compatible..Also as I just got this computer, a refurb from the apple store so I've yet to update it from the 10.8.3 it came with. I also realize we will soon be in Yosemite.

I just picked up a Focusrite Scarlett 18i20, they don't even include a CD :) Generally downloading the latest drivers from the manufacturer website is the best option.

Nice! I really thought about the scarlett boxes but I think i'm just gonna go ahead and get the saffire since I'm on a mac. Once I talked myself down I realized the Pro 24 really has all the inputs I could ever need for my home studio with 2 line ins and 8 ADAT inputs as well (if need be would pick up a behringer ada8000 or something). When I finally get this box i'm wanting to pick up some decent, affordable mic pre's perhaps a Golden Age Pre-73 or a Warm Audio pre.

Yeah, I have a ProFire 2626 that I've been quite happy with (except driver development), but my new laptop doesn't have firewire or a ExpressCard slot, so I had to get a USB interface. At least I can still run the ProFire as an ADAT expansion though, so there's that :)

Bro you really ought to think about what you are wanting to do.......

You haven't said what version of PT you have besides an older PT8LE. Mountian Lion 10.8.4/5 are a really solid stable place to be at right now. If you setup is more for fun, by all means upgrade to Mav's and then Yose....but if you want reliability and a solid PT performance....my opionion is to stay right where you are with 10.8 (the latest rev, which is 10.8.5)

I currently don't have a version of Pro Tools compatible with the laptop which is why I was asking about Mavericks stability. From my research it over the past few days it appears mixed. I am looking into DAW's and trying to determine which is best for my needs. I am really familiar with Pro Tools (been using for two years) but am not ruling out at least giving Logic Pro X or other DAWs a try. (From my research it appears Logic Pro X is either stable enough or suffers from really bad bug issues especially with automation). Either way hopefully my mbox 2 mini/PT 8 LE will sell soon on ebay so I can purchase a Focusrite Saffire Pro 24.
