Default PRO TOOLS 5.1 ON A WINDOWS XP SYSTEM PROBLEMS.

hello
i recently bought a new computer and it is running windows xp.
today i bought a digi 001 from guitar center and the pro tools software is 5.1.
the computer will not allow me to install the digi 001 . the error comes up saying the class installer has denied the request to install device.
when i go to install the software a prompter comes up that reads, installation requires windows me or windows 98 second edition, i dont understand since im running xp.
i do not have this computer connected to the internet in any way. it is going to be an audio only computer.
i had it built around the allen machine.
if any one knows how i can fix this annoying issue please let me know i would greatly appreciate it.
thanks alot.

Pro Tools LE 5.1 runs ONLY on Windows 98se or ME. It will NOT work with the Windows XP operating system.

The GOOD news is that a better version is available - Pro Tools 5.3.1, which is available for download here at the www.digidesign.com site. Since you just bought your Digi 001, it should be free for you. Here's a link:

http://www.digidesign.com/download/winup/

Download that, install it and use your validation code from the inside cover of your "Getting Started" guide.

One major bonus: The Win XP version (5.3.1) is 32 tracks instead of the 24 you get with The Win 98SE / ME version.

Another major bonus is it won't crash several times a day. I sure miss having to reformat and reload my software every couple weeks.
Just as much as I miss old tricky Dick.
