Default PT 2018 Copy and paste / duplicate doing something strange.

Running PT 2018.4 / iMac OSX 10.13.4 High Sierra
Noticing when I copy and paste files that are PERFECTLY on the grid they seem to randomly change lengths? Some files end up shorter? Some stay the same.
Same when I use the duplicate function.
It's exactly the same if I'm using Samples or Ticks. No difference?
Anyone else having this issue???

May be sample rounding? how much is the length changing?

My understanding of this is that because of sample rounding, each bar is not actually the same length of samples. for example if you picked a particularly unlucky tempo/sample rate combination resulting in a bar length ending in .5 of a sample, all odd numbered bars may be 1 sample shorter than even numbered bars. if that makes sense? Someone probably explained it better than me elsewhere.

So basically when duplicating, we are forced to choose between SAMPLES = duplicates the audio perfectly end-to-end but getting slightly off the tempo grid every time you duplicate, or TICKS = keeps the audio perfectly on the grid at the expense of chopping off the end or creating gaps between clips.

Yes I noticed the same yesterday when working with midi parts.
I tried different methods and overtime the same bug with sorter or longer length appear. That is very annoying because this bug wasn't there on PT 12.4 which I used before

I have had this problem since 12.7. I will have a perfect (for argument's sake) 2 measure midi block. It is perfectly 2 measures at max zoom. I duplicate or copy and somewhere along the way the dupe's start losing or gaining fractional ends- either they become slightly shorter or slightly longer. It costs me an INSANE amount of time to zoom check and fight with these midi blocks regions. I produce in PT. So this affects every instrument.

Search for "Sample Rounding" or "Rounding Error".

This is technically "correct" behaviour and every other DAW is fudging it.

If you switch timebase reference to ticks - it'll behave as you wish.

PT has always behaved like this.

Um... no it didn't, everything snapped perfectly to the grid regardless of Samples/ticks as time ref in all versions prior PT 11 (PT 10 and down). I used to be able to duplicate a clip/region and have it snap perfectly on the end of itself add infinitum... now, after the 3rd or 4th duplicate this "sample rounding" "feature" rears it's head and will create timing inconsistencies if not corrected manually.

Indeed, VERY annoying!

Nonsense. I can prove it if you like, I still have a copy of PT10 here.

Well, what can I say... I've been using PT since v6.x and had never encountered this until I upgrade to PT11 (64 bit, I make this distinction because PT was apparently re-coded), I too have a working version of PT10 and can confirm that when I duplicate clips in 10 they park themselves perfectly behind the preceding clip, on the grid every time.

The sample rounding bug has definitely been around for a loooooong time. So much so, that I long ago got used to making every region I create a sample or two shorter than an actual full bar (or however many). It's not terribly annoying once you get used to doing it.
