Default Outboard Converter to ADAT Optical or SPDIF?

Does anyone know if I hook an outboard converter like the Waves L2 Ultramaximizer 24bit/96k to the SPDIF connection on the back of the Digi001 Interface box if I can bypass the internal Digi converters, or do I have to use the ADAT optical to do this? Can I use the L2 as master through SPDIF? Lastly for the digi techs, any word on 24/96 or 192k software support for PTLE? Anyone? Dave? Brent? Eric?
Thanks everone.

Ususlly, if you feed a device a digital signal, it only needs to be clocked to the same res and sample rate, but it shouldn't go thru the A/D stage anymore, being already digital; so if you're doing this to use selcted brand converters there shouldn't be any troubles; an A/B test should set this straight. Just set digi as slave (or sync external) via SP/dif. We used to do a similar thing (when I was working as an assistant)with RME converters to go digitally in a DA 98 HR at 24 Bits via Tdif: converting thru RME A/D gave better results than using Tascam's stock converters.

Hope this helps.
