You are talking about Quicktime in general in Catalina. I said,

You still can't Bounce to Quicktime (or any movie format) from Catalina-based Pro Tools 2019.12.

I didn't think much about this until i ordered th 16: Macbook Pro, which comes with Catalina installed and is not backwards compatible (i.e. you can't install Mojave.)

Catalina was officially released in Oct 7, 2109 and the first developer beta was June 3, 2019. Granted, for a complex project involving changing basic underlying principles (Quicktime deprecation), this isn't a huge turnaround time, but still. It's time. Can't have a Mac Pro without being able to to Pro work, like bouncing quicktimes, which i do daily.

I kept my pre-Catalina boot clone around, so if I'm in heavy bounce to video mode I just back-boot to that. AVID not fixing this for a year is indeed a major f'ing joke.

Can you elucidate on that part of the process?

Shutter Encoder will also do this.
I find it easier than FFMpeg and its donation-ware.

Export audio the same length as your mp4.
Drop mp4 and audio into Shutter Encoder and choose 'add audio to video'.
Done.

Since most people seem to send me the video as mp4 that I have to convert for PT anyway, I usually have one already.

SE is also a great video converter and will even rip a you tube video, lots of other stuff too for the price of a coffee!

+1 for shutter encoder - I am using it all the time for replace audio in QuickTime movie, as well as mxf video converts in Catalina. It might just be the new mpegstreamclip!

Thanks, the "replace audio" is the old QuickTime 7/Pro trick. But I got the impression from one post that you could MAYBE insert a clip of audio into the video, instead of having to bounce the whole thing.

What I do is create an h.264 version of the clients reference video. When it comes time to making my “mix for approval” I’ll import the h.264 version into my timeline and then bounce to quicktime using that video. I’ve never had any issues or complaints from clients.

Alternatively, you could use a streaming platform such as Vimeo but those services cost extra money. However, if the video you’re sending out for approval is large it’s most likely you’re already using an FTP server or something like it.
Interesting! I never though of that work around. I usually just make the QT of the Pro res/HDnx then use Quicktime pro to make an iPhone or smaller file. Usually from 150 mb for a min or so down to 8mb and for client review vial email, that has worked, but it is VERY time consuming every time I need to make a QT, whether its a 30 second scene or 3 min+ clip, still can take 3-5 min for the whole process with offline bounce.

Should be fairly automatable with Automator or Keyboard Maestro.
