Petition: Resurrect and Enhance Force-Relinking

Dear Digi,

I apologise in advance for having to raise a petition, but I don't know how else to get my point across. I don't have any reps doting on me. Maybe I should... Anyhow:

The feature so many of us miss the most since Pro Tools 6 is the ability to force-relink a file. Indeed, the relinking features of PT 6 & 7 are largely worlds better than their PT 5.x predecessors, but I offer that inordinate amounts of frustration, cursing and spleen-venting on behalf of your userbase is expended in the name of not being able to tell Pro Tools to use one file instead of another. Although it seems possible, in some instances, to fool PT 6/7 into relinking another file, it involves the compulsory renaming of files and I've conferred with my colleagues and we all agree that there are many times PT refuses to "see" the replacement file, even if it has been renamed, converted to the correct file-type and the UID checkbox has been disabled.

Respectfully but simply put, the undersigned would like to see this feature put back; this time, done in a gracefully engineered fashion. The alternative to this would be to enhance the Replace Region command in the way I've illustrated in this thread Using Replace Region — need expert
