No need for an other copy, you just need a second license. At least that would be awesome if you could just purchase a second license and just use the same install box but with two different license. Don't know if they do sell licenses only.

I am always amazed that people using content creation software are so willing to steal IP.

They're not "Stealing", They are being "Creative"

Ilok is just about the simplest, most foolproof way of doing this and I'm still amazed at how many people can't grasp it.

I grasp it...it'd just be cool to be able to leave the iLok in my Mac Pro and use a another iLok in this MacBook Pro without having to buy another PT9 license, that's all.

While we are bickering and the Avid guys are smiling at their profits, I have a couple of relevant questions.

I have PT8 installed on one laptop with the Mbox 2 HW license. I just bought the PT9 crossgrade to install on another machine. The way I understand it, is that I have to transfer the license from the Mbox 2 to the iLok in order to run PT9 on the new machine (or buy another license, which I don't need).

Will I be able to stick the iLok in the PT8 machine and still use it? I think the answer is "yes" based on other postings, but some of the responses above have now left some doubts.

Also, could I upgrade the PT8 machine to PT9 (both machines now running PT9) and move the iLok from machine to machine as required?

Thanks.

Let's be clear here:

Upgrading to PT9 doesn't somehow destroy your ability to use PT8. The MBox is still the dongle for any Pro Tools version prior to 9. There's no reason you can't plug your PT9 iLok into one machine, and leave the MBox running with 8 on the other machine.

Of course.

That's good. At least I can work with PT8 if I have problems with 9. Other posts here suggested that you somehow surendered your license crossgrading from PT8to 9, but I might have misunderstood. I think they meant if the original license was on an iLok. Thanks for the clarification.

I know that the Mbox is the HW dongle, but I was thinking that they could read the license from the Mbox to the iLok and then disable the Mbox authorization in SW.

So, PT8 won't recognize the iLok without the Mbox? I was hoping I could use the iLok with PT8 standalone for mixing on the go. Kinda sucks...
