Re: Problems with PT9 and VEPro (Vienna Ensemble Pro)

Andrew. Play is not especially efficient IMO and it's only recently that it has actually started working in VE Pro. I don't know if you've looked on the VSL user forum but it might be worth asking there about compatibility and expected performance for your spec of PC. Also check out VI Control if you haven't already. Have you run Play as a plug-in within PT? What's the performance like there?

Re: Problems with PT9 and VEPro (Vienna Ensemble Pro)
Well I think that you all might be right about expecting a little much from these CPU's. But there is still some weirdness going on.
I took PLAY out of the equation because you're right Marsdy, it can be a bit of a hog sometimes. I loaded up 1 instance of Kontakt within VEPro 64bit. Within that 1 instance I loaded 10 Upright Pianos from the Kontakt 4 Library. Settings in VEPro were 4 threads per instance. Within Protools I loaded up a Master Channel, 1 Stereo Aux with VEPro on it, and 10 midi channels. I played simple quarter notes on all channels, with each channel triggering a different Piano in Kontakt. Settings in Protools were 4 Processors, CPU 85% and 1024 Samples buffer with the VEPro plugin at 1 buffer. Here are the CPU results from "all cpu meter" 1024 Buffer MASTER (Protools) Idle - 2% Playback - 2% SLAVE (VEPro) Idle - 2% Playback - 28% 512 Buffer MASTER (Protools) Idle - 4% Playback - 26% SLAVE (VEPro) Idle - 4% Playback - 40% I know these aren't power house machines but I'm pretty sure I could get better results than that. 40% CPU with 1 instance of Kontakt with 10 instruments? I have been on other forums trying to figure this out, including vi-control and VSL http://www.vi-control.net/forum/view...=269256#269256 http://community.vsl.co.at/forums/p/...22.aspx#183822 Unfortunately I have run out of time to get this working before my next project. I am going to rebuild these machines and use Reaper and my Profire on the Slave to get audio back into PT. Now that i am on Windows 7 on my DAW machine I can load up Bidule in Rewire and host a few things there - taking advantage of the excess RAM. I was getting much better performance using that setup - and that was on a Vista machine, not Windows 7. Leaving this one quite frustrated. I will revisit once this project is done and maybe I can get better results then. Or I'll just buy a couple of i7 machines and stuff 'em full of RAM!!! (If only this upcoming project paid well enough to do that) Thanks so much to everyone who has been helping! Cheers, Andrew

The price of an i7 900 series with 24GB of ram is actually getting to be pretty reasonable these days. |

That was one thing about the old PPC macs, I could run those things at 100% CPU for 16 hours straight and they'd never let go. |
