Seems like I got my issue fixed too.
I had to empty the plugin folder ...and gradually bring them back.
Turned out there were some 32bits plugins in there...that likely caused it to crash...but didn't pose any problems in 2019.12

I am on a new Mac Pro that should be screaming and it is doing the same thing. Lag Beachball every few seconds. Does not crash but on playback the cursor freezes and then a few seconds later catches back up. Same with key strokes... Kinda sucks.

Pretty sure the pref fix I mentioned early should fix this for you Coll. Under Operations tab pref, de-select "send anonymous data to AVID". If this DOESN'T work, you can try turning off your internet connection (more problematic though).

Issue is gone here. Unchecking the anonymous data pref did nothing for me. I disconnected my Ethernet, which stopped the spinning balls. I reconnected an hour later, and the problem was gone, with or without the anonymous data pref checked. I worked all day yesterday after this with no issue.

Our guess is that a change was made on an external server, most likely Avid’s, that caused a sudden problem for a large number of users. Perhaps they fixed it late morning yesterday. If you unchecked that pref, try re-checking it to see if the problem returns. It hasn’t for me, or for one of my friends.

YES I saw this too. I installed the Radio Silence app (macOS) to prevent any network connections.

Fixed it for me.

Looking up the Radio Silence App now...

My machine is up and happy.

I've been having the same issues, PT 2020.3 on Catalina 10.15.4

It all cleared up as soon as I turned wifi off.

Is there a way to turn off network access in PT? I'm not finding it....
Thanks

Radio Silence | Network monitor and firewall for Mac

This is a super simple, effective and cheap utility to block apps from net connection.
Highly recommended.

Is anyone still experiencing this issue? It just started yesterday for me. I'm running Pro Tools 20.09.1.123. I tried a couple of the previous suggestions (turning off Wi-fi) - still experiencing lag, and under Preferences--> Operations, the box to "Send Anonymous Pro Tools Usage to Avid" was already unchecked.

If this is also any correlation, Logic Pro X (vers.10.4.6) is also constantly showing a Notifications bar that the MIDI Inputs/Outputs are changing.

I've not had Pro Tools Ultimate and Logic running at the same time. The issue with both started yesterday. MIDI for Logic stopped working. Could it be a CoreAudio issue? Very frustrating. Thanks for any input.
