Question Macbook Pro / Pro Tools LE 8.0.5 and configure options?

I am using a Macbook Pro for recording - (specs below) and am using Pro Tools LE 8.0.5 (I am new to PT, so I am a newb). Mainly guitar and vocals. This is my only setup to record, so my options are limited.

Macbook Pro 15 inch (mid 2009)
Intel Core 2 Duo
2.53 ghz
4gb mem
250 gb hard drive 5400 rpm
2 USB / 1 Firewire port

Should I be using an external hd just for audio recording? I assume yes, so what is the best option for external hard drives, setup, etc.? I am using the new Mbox 3, so that takes up one usb port. If i am using both usb ports or 1 usb and 1 firewire will that hinder anything? Thanks.

using an external HD is the best route. i have a Digi 002, which uses 400 Firewire, i write-to an external 1TB HD with an 800 Firewire. i'm sure it'd be fine with 400 FW too.

when you start a new session, save it to the external drive. and it'll run off of there.

i use a Buffalo 1TB drive, but honestly man, any firewire external HD will do, just make sure it has good ratings. you can hit up newegg[dot]com for some quality gear at decent prices.

Thanks - I'll look into some firewire options.
