Default What's your favourite amp?

Good afternoon, guys.

Right now, I use a Roland Cube 15 (not the upgraded "x" line) for my direct-in preamp, a Peavey Rage 158 for microphoning the guitars, and I use a Roland Blues Cube (BC-) 30 mainly for keyboards. Perhaps someone would take these and use them differently.

I've put in a bid for a Roland Cube 20x to replace my Cube 15. Then I got thinking; What's everyone's favourite amp?

Surprisingly (and, so far), the Roland Cube 15 is my favourite. I'm just fond of it.

What's your favourite? Or for that matter, what's your favourite gear? I'm still shopping for new things, so would love to hear about other products.

I use the above for industrial metal genre.

For recording, right now my favorite amp is a 1975 Fender Champ. Sounds great clean, has a nice grind when overdriven, and really takes pedals well. Volume is low enough that you can record it with a U87, but it sounds big in a mix. Sounds good with both LP and Strat.

For live, I like my Traynor YBA-1 (it's basically a '59 Fender Bassman/Marshall Plexi circuit) through a pair of Celestion Vintage 30's.

1984 HIWATT LEAD 100 front ported SE4123 cab with 75watt Fanes.

I sold my original Marshall 2204 and kept this one "back in the day" Great Rock amp.

It was HIWATTS answer to the JCM800 (or so I have read). Kinda a cross between a cranked vintage HIWATT, A crunchy Soldano SLO 100 combined with some of the JCM800's midrange aggression (minus the "Fizz"). The front ported HIWATT cab reminds me of the larger Mesa Rectos and RoadKing cabs. These were some of the last ones made in Britain before Fernandes moved the production for America to Buffalo. There was a later Buffalo made LEAD 100 that was completely different.

A BF 1966 Fender Super Reverb would be my second choice. (mine currently needs some work though)

I have a 64 Vibrochamp (No, I didn't buy it new) that was my first amp that I've hung on to for sentimental reasons. I don't play it that much since I've shredded the speaker once or twice.

As an interesting side note to "What Amps Do You Like" might be "What Amps to you Want?"

I would like a BF Deluxe Reverb or Marshall 18wt. Possibly a JC120.

P.S. Kris you might ask them to move this thread to the "All Things Guitar" section as it might be good reading and give Digi some ideas for future expansion of Eleven.

there is a guitar thread this could be moved to with other similar posts.

but it depends

for straight up rock/metal my mesa boogie mark V is the ticket. waited about 6 months for this amp to be released and keep pulling different tubes in and out trying them out. but it is such a flexible amp, the clean tweed setting is AMAZING and can twang out it. like it better than some fenders i have played. i have to say though it is more affected tone wise by cabinet and speakers than any other amp i have owned. killer metal tone but can tame down very well and a wide array of tones to choose from.

but i also have a dr z maz 18 jr that is just so nice. it gets a great overdriven dirty guitar sound that makes you want to play some blues or turn it up and start playing highway to hell. sometimes for rock though this is just the amp! gets in the old marshall territory but then can get quite glassy. no channel switching, no gain knob, just 18w of bliss

Sunburst,

I put a Weber Signature 8 Alnico in my Champ. Seems durable, sounds great, cost $35. You might want to try one next time you want to replace that Vibrochamp speaker.

I have two of those Vettas. I love em. I can sound like almost all of these amps, VERY convincingly.

Ok I'll bite. While I would love to own basically every single amp that has been mentioned so far, the two Amps that i own that haven't been sold over the twenty plus years that I have been playing are The marshall plexi 100 watt head (early 90's reissue) for super clean and My Bogner ecstasy classic which is an extremely versatile amp once you learn how to use it. I play a wide variety of genres and can get pretty much whatever tone i need out of that thing.

Thanks Greg. I had it reconed some time ago. At the time there really were not a lot of options so it got the stock Oxford or CTS cone job. The singing sustain of a champ with a overdrive always seems to be just this side of cone job.

Kind reminds of Mike Cambell once saying that the last 20 minutes of a VOX AC30's life right before the output transformer melts are always the the most magical.

Heard lot of good things about Webers.
