Default 002r monitor mute is stuck!

Dear friends,

I left my 002rack on overnight and now the monitor mute is stuck! When booting Protools LE the application does not recognize the hardware. I'm unable to activate any of the buttons on the face of the unit because of this let alone use LE or Logic...any suggestions? Is there a way to reset the firmware on the 002r without having to start up LE? I've powered down the unit, unplugged the AC, changed the AC outlet, restarted and pressed the mute repeatedly with no dice, again none of the buttons are activating on the unit now and the mute is stuck to the on position.

Thanks,
RS

Search this forum for 'power harness'...

Thanks Tele,

I read your previous post and it looks like that would be the ticket and explain why I've previously had so many other errors like -6097, -6086, -6090, -6085, -6093, all having to do with firewire or HW buffer which I fixed some but others seemed to have no remedy. I wish the answerbase had this info.

Thanks again for your insite,

RS

You can check previous threads under Power Harness regarding this topic.

Basically here's what you do in a nutshell:

Open the unit and reseat the power harness. If that does'nt work i.e. the 002 is still stuck then call digi and they'll send a repair kit for you. You'll have to agree to a disclaimer in case YOU get damaged (not the unit) and it will not affect the warranty (in case things really go wrong) with the unit itself. If you feel that it's too technical a job then send it in to Digi, call them to get a Return Authorization #. Obviously the quickest way is to FIY, the kit will appear at your doorstep within 1-2 days.

Good Luck,

RS

just to mention that depending on the serial number (and the date it was made, of course), they ask you to send it back to repair. Not always the repair kit is offered. They will send you a prepaid air bill so you can send your 002R and they'll return it to your door if the repair kit is not suitable to your particular equipment, as it was my case.
I wish all other companies around face the reparing issue like Digi. Of course, it would be better not to suffer it in the first place, but they are handling the repair issue very good.
Good luck

I think that this applies to a certain batch that had power supply issues, not just bad power harnesses.

The fix is quick, simple, and incredibly easy. It took about 10 minutes, then I was up and running again.

That's right. That's what they told me in my case. That it wasn't the classical harness problem, but another power supply issue.
