With the M-Audio interfaces I have, when you take a digital input from another source you have the option of clocking to it. The 1814, for example, does have WC I/O or you can clock to the digital signal.

It has worked for me in the past.

Total shameless plug here but I have a Black Lion Audio modified 1814. It's portable and sounds every bit as good as my Rosetta 200 did. If you're looking for 24/96 in a small package this is it. Im trying to go HD so this has to go.
