Default what is the most stable pro tools/ os combo since pt 7.4 and os 10.4.11?

Hey guys,

The logic board on my trusty g5 is dying after 10 years of faithful service. Upgrading to last generation mac pro and and will more than likely upgrade my magma chassis so that i can still use my tdm cards (hd6). pt 7.4 and os 10.4.11 has been rock solid. Dont want to go the pt 11 hdx route right now because i've heard it is really buggy. been using pt 9.06 hd natively and it is ok but not as solid as my pt 7.4.

So what is the most stable pt version and os combination to date? Once i do this upgrade it may be another 10 years before I move as i like things to work in a predictable manor...so i want to do it right.

thanks,

ej

I recall v8.0.5 being stable with Leopard OS. If you are working with AAF or OMF files, v9.0.6 is only usable with Lion OS. v9.0.5 was stable with Snow Leopard OS. v10.3.7 has been stable with Lion OS. Later releases of v10 have various issues, especially with TDM cards (input monitoring).

If you are going to hang on to your HD setup for a long time, I recommend you go for the latest version that supports them and is running well for me (PT 10.3.7 on OSX 10.8.5). It seems to be about as stable as all other options, and it will give you a system that has as many features as possible, and is more compatible (can open version 10 sessions, can run AAX Native plug-ins). Very stable and solid with HD cards in a Magma PE6R4-I and previous model Mac Pro's.

10.8.4/.5 and 10.3.7 -Has been flawless in post and mixing, music recording and mixing.

I'm doing music at 88.2, many plugins, heavy automation, 100 plus tracks, recording additional parts back into same session ect.

I have zero problems. The only reason I haven't gone to 10.3.8 yet is I hear there is an AAF bug and 10.3.9 has input monitoring bugs.

PT8 and 9 were fine in their time. PT 10 is just much better, quicker and easier to deal with.

Is your G5 and PCIe or PCI X Version? I happen to have a PCIx version sitting here I don't use anymore.

The AAF bug I have encountered was not fixed in v10.3.9.
