No one? I thought the video would pique a little interest and clarify what I'm talking about.

I also got this error when I first opened PT:

It has not returned since. Probably not a big deal.

I may just revert back to my old system.

Reviving and old thread instead of posting a new one.

After last years failure, I'm again considering trying a co-install.

My system is:

Macbook Pro
2.6 GHz i7
16GB Ram
OS X 10.8.5
PT 10.3.5.223

Can I leave OS X and PT 10 as they are in just install PT 11.X?

Which version of PT 11 would work best with my OS version?

Yes, that's the point. Leave your old system as is and install latest PT11 which has most bug fixes

According to this page: http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/e...ll-Information
you're going to need a minimum of PT10.3.6 to do the co-install with PT11. As for my system on the OSX 10.8.5 partition PT10.3.10 and PT11.3.1 coexist just fine. I don't use AAF so that's not an issue.

Something to remember is that the Avid instruments and fx are a separate download for PT11 unlike PT10 where it's just one download.

I see. I tried PT 10.3.7 last year and immediately had the issues posted earlier in this thread. I ended up reverting back to where I am at now and just running with it.

I may just wait until I'm done with my current project and then do a clean install of OS X and the proper PT versions. Or just try a later versions of PT 10 and see if my problems are averted. Either way, sounds fun.

Thanks.

Which versions of PT 10 and 11 are the base installs from which I'll update to the latest versions (PT 10.3.10 and PT 11.3.1)?

I've got a bunch of different versions in my Avid account.

Each version of PT is a full installer; you don't need to install one version (say PT10.3.0) and then update to PT10.3.10. Same with PT11. Just make sure you download the instrument installer which is a separate download when it comes to PT11. Do the PT10 install first, reboot the computer, and then install PT11.

As far as upgrading OSX as long as you stay within say Mountain Lion you'll be okay; grab the combo updater. If you're doing a clean install of OSX do NOT use Migration Assassin (otherwise known as Migration Assisstant).

I think I gotcha.

My avid account shows

PT 10.3.8 (2.33 GB)
PT 10.3.9 (2.33 GB)
PT 10.3.10 (2.33 GB)

So, each of those is a full install and requires a complete uninstall of existing versions of PT 10, prior to install?

Im at OS X 10.8.5 and staying there. Is any of the three options more stable with that version?

My plan was to wipe and re-install OS X while doing this. I don't always trust the uninstallers of applications as they sometimes leave behind tailings of the software.

But I don't want to re-install OS X 3 times just to figure out which version (if any) will let me work unimpeded.

Do a clean uninstall of your existing PT10. This will not affect any third party plugins. Then install PT10.3.10. Repair permissions after you do the install. Then you're good to go with PT10. No need to reinstall OSX.

Actually not everyone uninstalls an existing install of PT10; when I did the install of PT10.3.10 I just installed right over the top of the existing PT10.3.9 install. It's your option.

If you don't have the disks that came with your computer (if it even came with dvd's) to reinstall ML you may be able to do the reinstall from the recovery partition which you should be able to get to by holding down the option key as the computer boots.
