L monitor out dead , need help routing outputs 3-4

hello , for some reason the L monitor out to monitor is dead, only the right out is outputting sound , so in the mean time , i thought i would use the 3-4 outputs of the 002r to do the same thing that the L AND R Monitor outs are doing, but i end up with distorted sound, very loud, and cant control the level or volume via monitor level knob (it wont effect the volume when i turn it), anyway i can rout things to make outputs 3-4 act the same as L AND R Monitor outs ,thanks
